Hecla Mining Company: Bought March Call Options!

Today we purchased a small number of the March 2009 Call Options (HLCZ) for $0.75 per contract at a strike price of $2.50.

This trade is in anticipation of the broad markets moving forward and silver making up some ground on its big brother gold. Hecla Mining stock has been battered over the last six months but lately has made a bit of a come back and closed yesterday at $2.76 (more…)

Happy Christmas and a Precious Metals New Year

Its been a tough old year for metals and mining bugs with the start of 2008 shaping up so well only to run aground in the straits of de-leveraging. Hopefully the flight to cash is now behind us and the real rate of return on cash deposits is negative so sooner or later investors will get their heads up and look for a better bang for their buck. They will also recognise that their political masters are diluting all currencies, as financial stimuli is the order of the day. Holding currencies adds up to a slow death if investors stick with paper long enough. As we go forward savvy investors will be looking to escape the clutches of government and the organised theft of their wealth. The precious metals sector offers a lifeline in that they cannot be printed by anyone and therefore offers a relatively safe harbour in which to drop anchor. (Read more..)

Pan American Silver Corporation: Chart Break Out!

On its third attempt to break out above the $14.00 resistance level Pan American Silver Corporation finally managed to do it and closed today at $16.68 today. In anticipation of this move we placed orders to purchase Call Options on PAAS but unfortunately they were not filled. We increased our bid but PAAS took off a tad too fast for us and the premiums required started to look expensive so we with drew from the bidding contest. A decision we may come to regret as silver has come to life and stands at $11.28 as we write (more…)

Pennant Formation on Silver Standard Resources

Having halved then halved again from its highs, Silver Standard Resources is firmly in the oversold category, along with most other silver stocks. However after this extreme sell off, SSRI appears to have formed either a pennant or ascending triangle, which should be noted by traders and investors who follow this stock.

On December 1st 2008 we wrote to First Majestic Silver Corporation asking the following question:

Dear Sirs,

Some of our readers have expressed interest in the compilation of your cash costs as to why the smelting costs are omitted, so it would help our readership and us, if you could provide us with an answer to the following question:

Your cash costs are stated in Q3 financial results are $7.65 per ounce, which excludes the cost of smelting. As other silver producers normally include these smelting costs could you please explain to us why you have chosen not to include smelting costs?

Endeavour Silver Corporation: More High Grade Discoveries!

At Cebada, the “3785″ discovery was the first new find identified this year and it is now being developed for mining next year.
