Hecla Mining Company has been a good vehicle for us in terms of generating profits through short-term trades. We now see this silver producer as being oversold and have therefore decided to buy today at an average price of $9.61.

Having come off a high of $13.03 this stock has dropped back to close at $9.53 as of Friday 23rd May 2008 (read more…)

The merry month of May has almost gone but not without tossing us a surprise rally which commenced on the 1st of May and put on $75/oz before hitting the brakes yesterday when it fell back to close at $906.15/oz.

The old adage of sell in May and go away appeared to reverse for most of the month. Maybe they went early this year as gold dropped a $100/oz in the second half of April (read more…)

When we look at these results they appear to be reasonably good to us. The problem comes when the results fall below analyst’s expectations, generating a myriad of notes from influential advisors downgrading the stock by a dollar or so.

What is a problem for them is an opportunity for us as they drive the stock price down we will prepare to pounce and bag a few more of this quality silver miner (read more…)

As we write silver is trading around $17/oz, having pierced the magical $20/oz ealier this year. We anticipate this year being a good year for silver bugs; but we still expect silver re-visit its 200dma, which stands at $15.50/oz at the moment although it is moving upwards which will ultimately support silver prices.

The rally by the US Dollar and the subsequent sell off in gold has had a knock on effect on silver driving the price down from $21/oz to the $16/oz level. Silver stocks took a clobbering along the way but the worst now appears to be behind us.

On the 11th April 2008 we took profits on Hecla Mining when we sold some of our stock for $11.79, today this silver stock has backed off to close at $10.12, a fall of $1.67 or 14%. We could now re-purchase Hecla at a reasonable discount in a space of less than three weeks.
